The Best Independent Caravan Parks near Newquay
Newquay is the UK's surf capital — a 15-mile stretch of Atlantic-facing Cornish coast running from Watergate Bay south to Crantock, Holywell and Perranporth. The big operators (Haven, Parkdean) have a footprint here, but if you ask any local Cornishman where to stay, they'll send you to one of the family-run independents. They're smaller, they've usually been in the same family for three generations, and they're typically a 5-minute drive from beaches the megaparks bus to.
We've picked the top five from our database — all rated 4.5+, all genuinely 'near Newquay' (within 10 miles of Fistral), and all independent (no big-operator branding). Prices are indicative for two adults over a 3-night stay; tap any park to confirm live availability on the operator's own site.

Hendra Holiday Park
Hendra is the biggest of Newquay's independents and the easiest to recommend — 5-Star Visit England rated, with the 'Oasis' indoor sub-tropical pool, a coarse-fishing lake, dog-friendly fields and a footpath into Newquay's centre that takes about 25 minutes. The park is family-run since the 1960s. Best for: families wanting big-park facilities without big-park feel.
Trevornick Holiday Park
Trevornick sits above Holywell Bay (used as a Game of Thrones filming location) and is a 90-second walk from a Blue Flag dog-friendly beach. Coarse fishing lakes, indoor pool, a 9-hole golf course, and a justifiably famous outdoor entertainment field. Best for: active families who want the beach and the surfing on the doorstep.
Trevella Park
Trevella is on the edge of Crantock village — a 10-minute walk down a lane to Crantock Beach (rated by lots of locals as Cornwall's prettiest). Famed for its 'wildflower meadow' touring pitches, a small but lovely indoor pool and an on-site farm with rare-breed pigs the kids will photograph for the rest of their lives. Best for: couples and small families wanting the prettiest of Cornwall.
Newperran Holiday Park
Newperran sits between Newquay and Perranporth — fast access to the two best surf beaches in Cornwall. Outdoor heated pool (rare for an independent), a separate adults-only field for couples, a popular on-site bar with live music three nights a week. Best for: surfers, couples and the late-twenties weekenders.
Sun Haven Valley
The smallest park on the list — Sun Haven Valley sits in the wooded Lanherne Valley running down to the sea at Mawgan Porth, just north of Newquay. No entertainment programme, deliberately tranquil, and the valley walk takes you straight to one of the best surf beaches in north Cornwall. Best for: peace, dog walks, and people who think a 'holiday park' should feel like a holiday.
Questions before you book
How close are these parks to Fistral Beach?+
Hendra is the closest at roughly 3 miles (a 10-min drive or a 25-min walk via the cycle path). Trevornick is 5 miles to the south at Holywell. Trevella is 4 miles to the south-west at Crantock. Newperran is 7 miles south near Perranporth. Sun Haven Valley is 5 miles north at Mawgan Porth — closer to Watergate Bay than Fistral.
Why book an independent instead of Haven or Parkdean near Newquay?+
Two reasons: location and atmosphere. The independents are typically right on or beside the smaller Cornish beaches (Crantock, Holywell, Mawgan Porth), whereas the big-operator parks are usually 5–10 minutes inland. Atmosphere is also dramatically different — small, family-run, far less entertainment programming, and you're more likely to chat to the owners at reception.
Are these parks open year-round?+
Most Cornish caravan parks are licensed for an 11-month season (closing January for maintenance). Trevornick and Hendra also offer some glamping pods that stay open all year. Always confirm winter availability on the operator's own page — Cornish winters are dramatically quieter and dramatically cheaper.
Can I bring my dog to all five?+
Yes — all five accept dogs (pet supplement applies, usually £4–6 per night per dog). Trevornick and Sun Haven Valley are especially dog-led, with private dog walks on park and direct access to dog-friendly beaches. Always check breed restrictions on the operator's site before booking.
